Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT)
Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT)
Fractionated coconut oil is a form of coconut oil that has been processed to remove the long-chain fatty acids, leaving behind the medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). This process results in an oil that is liquid at room temperature (unlike regular coconut oil, which solidifies when cool) and has a longer shelf life. It’s colorless, odorless, and typically used for a variety of purposes in skincare, haircare, and aromatherapy.
Features:
Liquid Consistency: Unlike regular coconut oil, which can solidify at cooler temperatures, fractionated coconut oil remains liquid at all temperatures.
Mild and Non-Greasy: It has a light texture, which makes it ideal for use in massage oils, lotions, and as a carrier oil for essential oils.
Odorless: It has no scent, so it won’t interfere with the fragrance of essential oils or other products you mix it with.
High Shelf Life: Due to the removal of the long-chain fatty acids, the oil is less prone to oxidation and has a longer shelf life than regular coconut oil.
Common Uses:
Carrier Oil for Essential Oils: Fractionated coconut oil is commonly used to dilute essential oils in aromatherapy or topical applications.
Skin Moisturizer: It is often used in skincare products like lotions, creams, and massage oils due to its ability to deeply hydrate without being greasy.
Hair Care: It can be used as a hair treatment to help with dry scalp or to add shine to hair.
Cosmetic Formulations: Many cosmetic products, like makeup removers and serums, use fractionated coconut oil as a base because it is light and easily absorbed into the skin.
Benefits:
Hydrating: It moisturizes the skin by penetrating deeply without clogging pores.
Antimicrobial: Like regular coconut oil, fractionated coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has antimicrobial properties, making it useful for skin care.
Non-Comedogenic: It is less likely to clog pores compared to thicker oils, making it suitable for those with acne-prone skin.
